Feilding has won NZ's Most Beautiful Town Award 14 times, and won the most votes for the Best Farmer's Market in NZ in 2012 and 2013. For these reasons, Feilding was chosen as the only small town destination for Prince Charles and Camilla's Royal Tour in November 2012. It is a small town supporting the rural community, and it has all the amenities travellers need, such as supermarkets, restaurants, golf (including minigolf), swimming complex, cinema and a library. In nearby regions there are renowned rhododrendron gardens, bush walks, windmills and the beach. There are no traffic lights or parking meters in Feilding - sheer bliss for shoppers. Most of the shops are boutique style and there are plenty of lovely cafes.
The Saleyards are famous being one the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere and right in town. A tour of them on Fridays 11am is highly recommended (book at Feilding Information Centre Ph (06) 323 3318) or Reena can arrange it for you. You could combine this with a visit to the Farmer's Market every Friday from 9am - 2 pm.
Feilding is an ideal place to break your journey - it is two to three hours drive in all directions to other major destinations like Taupo, New Plymouth, Hawkes Bay and Wellington.
